EA Labels President Frank Gibeau used these words while discussing Mirror’s Edge 2 and EA’s product portfolio for fiscal year 2014. EA Games Exec VP Patrick Söderlund also commented on the nature of the reboot, saying it “will be more of an action adventure game, but true to what the first one was to a large extent.” Söderlund also acknowledged that EA has been aware of the desire for a sequel for a long time, but decided to move forward on a concept that would flourish on next-generation consoles.
Though Mirror’s Edge 2 aims to fix the missteps of the original 2008 free-running title, Söderlund is clear that DICE will not be walking the same path. This makes sense, considering a sizable problem for the game is the free-running mechanic, which is largely based on quickly traversing through levels while avoiding enemies.
On the flipside, Söderlund embraced fan appreciation for the art direction and overall style and feel of the game, and the small view given by the teaser shows the atmosphere of Mirror’s Edge 2 does not feel dissimilar to the original. He also explained that more big things are coming, and we are excited to see what DICE and EA have been up to these past few years.
