Unlike most titles, Modern Warfare 3 does not feature any price discount or pre-order bonus for pre-purchasing. In the past, Steam gamers could usually look forward to a discount on pre-purchased titles. In some cases a pre-purchased title would even offer another game in the franchise for free as a pre-order incentive. Modern Warfare 3 can be purchased for full price at $59.99. Luckily, PC gamers can look forward to full dedicated server support in Modern Warfare 3, which can be a huge incentive to pre-purchase the game, even without any other bonuses.
Modern Warfare 2 required players to use the Steam client in order to play. Unlike the recent Origin and Battlefield 3 debacle, this was not seen as an issue as Steam is already an established service, and one that many will happily use. No word has been given yet if Modern Warfare 3 will require the Steam client once again, though it is possible.
Activision and Infinity Ward seem to be doing a lot recently to cater to the PC community. By giving players full dedicated server support they are already fixing many of the mistakes they made with the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. In addition, allowing players to use Steam can be a huge factor when a consumer is trying to decide on whether or not they want to purchase a game - and it is good to see Activision showing the PC community they have not forgotten about them.
