Downloading this package will net buyers a copy of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Billed as an “arcade-perfect” recreation of this original trilogy, the collection will give fans and newcomers the opportunity to travel back to the long lost days of actually going to dimly lit, smelly rooms full of arcade cabinets, waiting in lines and putting real quarters into a machine for some precious play time with graphics and speed that trounced anything available at home.
With the wave of enthusiasm for the series riding high on the player side, the feeling seems to be mutual on the developer end as well. NetherRealm Studios Creative Director and series co-creator Ed Boon couldn’t be happier with a chance to answer fan demands:
The well-received Mortal Kombat reboot was able to condense and tweak the narrative of the first three Mortal Kombat titles into one tidy little package. However, the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection should be a nice refresher course for players who haven’t thrown down in Outworld’s fabled tournament in a while.
Another bonus for this release is that Performance Designed Products will be offering, through Gamestop, a limited run of fight sticks for those who really want that arcade feel, and have $130 to burn. The stick will come packaged with a download code for the game as well.
So far, only the vague release window of “late summer” has been given, but we do know that the three-game bundle will only run $10. Aside from having all the classic features, it will also come with the current gen standards like online play, leaderboards and achievements or trophies (assuming PSN is up by then for you to show them off).
Anyone out there excited to take a trip down a very bloody memory lane? Are you still knee-deep in the new and improved dismembered limbs of the recent Mortal Kombat, or is ten bucks for for a trio of gaming classics too good to pass up?
The late summer window is still a few months off, so that’s plenty of time to save ten measly dollars to download the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection from Xbox Live, PlayStation Network or on PC.
